Moscow Art Trio
29 June, CD Club

The first guest ensemble of the evening was the Moscow Art Trio, playing its characteristic fusion of jazz and Russian folk music.

Wearing the national costume of southern Russia, Sergey Starostin, whose vocal improvisations draw inspiration from the folk music of western Russia, used a number of traditional woodwinds.

Hornist Arkady Shilkloper, playing mostly a horn and flugelhorn, surprised the audience with an alphorn, which he played with great speed and virtuosity.

Misha Alperin also did not only stick to his piano, which brought him to fame in the late 1980s, but tackled various melodics with masterly skill. At the CD Club, the set-up created an especially ethereal, spiritual ambience, interspersed with superb solos.
